I build software that helps people.

ØStudio is where I do it. Right now, that's DropQ, helping grain haulers across the Canadian prairies know whether to leave for the terminal now, or wait.

Capabilities

What ØStudio does

Right now, that's DropQ, end to end.

Product design & engineering

ØStudio designs and builds products end to end: architecture, backend systems, mobile clients. DropQ, below, is the current one.

Optimization R&D

The research lineage behind DropQ's core (pythOPT, optopuss, optobench) goes back to grad school. More in Background.

DropQ

DropQ Pilot launching soon

Know the wait before you go.

DropQ gives grain haulers across the Canadian prairies live, predictive wait-time visibility at the terminal. One straightforward answer to the only question that matters: leave now, or wait?

Background

Before DropQ

DropQ didn't start with DropQ.

pythOPT, optobench

My MSc thesis at the University of Saskatchewan (2016), pythOPT, was a problem-solving environment for optimization methods. It's the root of the estimation work behind DropQ. I later rewrote its core as optopuss, a Go-based swarm-intelligence framework, as a private exercise. A public library of benchmark test functions from the same work, with a C++ core and Python bindings, is available as optobench.

ORCID

mindsync, then Google, then DropQ

ØStudio's first product, in 2020, was mindsync, a personal knowledge-management tool. It didn't find its market. I spent time at Google, then came back to build DropQ.

About

Company & founder

Krzysztof Voss

Founder

I graduated in 2009 with a master's degree in informatics; my thesis focused on high-performance computing and the networking of HPC clusters. I then spent my early career at one of Europe's largest logistics companies. That's where I found a real passion for optimization: the hard problems underneath moving things efficiently. It's what took me back to grad school, into a numerical simulation lab at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon to study mathematical optimization. My MSc thesis there (2016), pythOPT, was a problem-solving environment for optimization methods, and it's the root of the optimization work above.

During grad school, I worked as a developer at Solido (now part of Siemens EDA). After finishing my MSc, I co-founded my first startup in 2016, the start of ten years (and counting) as an entrepreneur. It raised funding and ran a couple of years before I moved on. I then worked as a data scientist at Conexus Credit Union and as a software developer on Google Cloud.

I founded ØStudio in 2020 to build things on my own. That's included product work (mindsync, then DropQ) and, for a stretch, data analytics and machine learning pipeline consulting for outside companies. DropQ has my full attention now.
